Meet Kiean, a Legend of the Forest

Kiean, 22, is from Leytonstone, and talked to us about his experiences volunteering at the opening event.

Why did you sign up to be a Legend of the Forest?

I have done some volunteering previously and found it really fulfilling and a great way to meet people from different communities. My friends and family always say how good I am at giving directions and communicating with people, so I thought I would fit the role of a Legend of the Forest Wayfinder as I could share my local knowledge with those who have never visited the borough before.

What’s the best thing about being a volunteer?

There are so many amazing things about being a volunteer, from interacting with my fellow Legends who are all so friendly to getting to wave the blue foam fingers. My favourite thing to see was the wonder and excitement on everyone's faces whether they were in Nest the epic lighting installation in Lloyd Pak or watching the visual shows on the Town Hall building.  These moments are the ones that really brought everyone together to celebrate start of the London Borough of Culture.

What advice would you give anyone thinking about becoming a Legend?

Being a Legend truly is awesome! With events across the borough throughout the year, there is no better time to become a Legend and support spectacular events that are happening right on our doorstep – the experience of being a Legend is so rewarding. There are loads of different opportunities available, some are behind the scenes, other roles are public facing so you really can choose a role that fits you.
