This event will inspire a cultural conversation around the activities and impacts generated from the ‘Making for Change: Waltham Forest’ project.
Developed in partnership between Centre for Sustainable Fashion and Waltham Forest Council for London Borough of Culture 2019 and the Great Place scheme, the project has used fashion activism and making as catalysts for positive change. However, as the London Borough of Culture year is coming to an end, this raises issues of what legacies have been activated beyond the project’s timeframe and funding?
Dr Francesco Mazzarella (Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at Centre for Sustainable Fashion) will introduce the ‘Making for Change: Waltham Forest’ project. Dr Laura Santamaria (co-founder of Sublime) will chair a panel discussion with Laura Gander-Howe (Director of Public Engagement and Culture at LCF), Anna Schuster (LCF graduate and co-founder of Waltham Forest-based fashion brand JOA), Han Ates (Founder of Blackhorse Lane Ateliers) and Juanita Azubuike (Employment and Training coordinator for Early Help Service at Waltham Forest Council).
At the end of the symposium, light refreshments will be available, and there will be opportunities for networking. Come and join us!
