Marshall Jefferson will be talking about his long-awaited book Diary of a DJ a history lesson in House Music.
It tells the story of growing up in 1960’s and 1970’s Chicago at a time where there was racial tension and violent gangs. It was because of this that a small group of music loving young males decided to start up their own parties and make a new kind of music that kept the gang people away.
Marshall explains how by the mid-80’s he was making music along with a handful of other guys from Chicago and how this music caught the attention of young people in the UK and helped ignite what became known as Acid House and Rave.
Marshall will be in conversation with writer Ian 'Snowy' Snowball. ‘Snowy’ has written books on The Jam, The Who, Oasis, Paul Weller and several novels including Specific State '89, which was a collaboration with Centreforce Radio. Ian assisted Marshall in writing Diary of a DJ and so far has had three Amazon Number One Best Selling books.
Helping explore the past, present and future of House, there will be DJ sets from one of the UK’s house pioneers Dave Congreve (Soma Records/Rotters Gold Club) and the Eastern Front Soundsystem crew.
