30 Oct - 16 Dec
Market Parade
Throughout 2019 artist Larry Achiampong has been developing new work in response to an abandoned supermarket in Leyton. The work in development uses the old supermarket building as a means to explore the social and political issues affecting the wider area - race, class, gender, gentrification, whilst referencing the black body within a space that victimises it, in this case, the Western Supermarket.
A part of the residency Larry has also reimagined the building as a community cinema– a place where films from across the world related to these issues and the artists practice can be shown and discussed. Young people from the local area will work with Larry Achiampong and local events company We Are Parable curate and film programme from across the world that helps to tell a local story.
