Jump! Waltham Forest Festival of Games
This is an upcoming festival of games and play for Waltham Forest, combining new commissions with community events over a week in September 2021.
We are keen to connect to other events and initiatives taking place within Waltham Forest, especially those that connect to the festivals core interests of:
- Play and games in all their forms
- Intergenerational play
- Play as a way of being together
- Play as a way of changing our experiences of, and feelings about, public space
The Engagement Producer will help identify and involve interested borough residents, in particular in our Community Events programme and our Play Streets project.
We want to identify local groups taking part in playful activities - whether that’s board game nights, bridge drives, interactive theatre, anything local involved in play and games - who would benefit from small (approx. £100-500) grants to cover equipment, space or facilitators, and who would be interested in running an event as part of the festival. We would also like to gather a series of existing events that can be highlighted in the programme.
The Play Streets project draws upon the existing Play Streets network, around 30-40 streets around Waltham Forest which close on the third Sunday of every month and are turned over to play for the residents of that, and nearby, streets.
As part of the festival, we want to identify streets that would be interested but are not currently part of the network, and support them to apply for a one-off street party to test out the idea of being part of the Play Streets network, and if they take to it to become a Play Street on an ongoing basis. We will provide all participating streets with a pack of some play equipment (created by local designers) and decorations.
Our Engagement Producer will be involved in identifying these streets and groups and working with them to find out whether it makes sense for them to be part of the festival. They will also be involved in getting the word out about the festival more generally, but we envisage their main involvement being with these two strands.
Additional engagement support
We have a wide range of events taking place from July through to the end of the year working with different delivery partners. The Engagement Producer will work with the Culture team, other Council departments and our commissioned partners to help build relationships with the community within Waltham Forest so that residents are aware of the activity taking place and feel supported to attend or take part.
