John Rogers - Marshlands

Waltham Forest Tours presents Marshlands with John Rogers, Psychogeographer-in-residence; an edgeland walk that explores Waltham Forest’s historic marshlands, from the WaterWorks Centre in Leyton to Walthamstow Wetlands.

You will traverse the ancient Lammas Lands and explore the rich heritage of the area from the Bronze Age through to the birth of the aviation industry. 

John will be joined by local local historian David Boote as part of this walk. A map of the walk is being produced in by printer Russell Frost of Hooksmith Press, Leytonstone, and participants will be encouraged to make a record of their journey as part of the experience.

This event is part of a series of walks led and instigated by writer, film-maker and Leytonstone resident John Rogers, author of This Other London – Adventures in the Overlooked City. The walks will explore various aspects of Waltham Forest from its topography, culture, overlooked heritage, and psychogeography. Local people of interest will join John on the walks to contribute to the pool of knowledge. The aim will be not simply to impart information but to share a way of looking at the landscape and the built environment.
