Year-long
BBC Documentary
EastSide Story will unite young people from two local estates to tell their own stories in their own words for a special documentary filmed during the London Borough of Culture 2019 year.
In an era when daily headlines are full of stories about young people and the challenges they face, this project will explore what can be done to create a better future, re-writing our EastSide story together.
Through transformational youth work and dynamic cultural arts sessions, a group of 14 to 19-years-old will create a brand new performance based on Westside Story. EastSide Story is both a documentary film and year-long engagement programme featuring some of the leading artists from Waltham Forest returning to where they were brought up to inspire the next generation.
The project will see leading specialists from RAW Academy and Catalyst in Communities join forces, alongside a line of celebrity mentors from the area including Talvin Singh, Harris Dickinson and Sir Matthew Bourne.
Tune into the BBC in 2019.
