Our year as London Borough of Culture aimed to deliberately blur the line between residents, professional artists, local businesses and community members.
It is a space where art, ideas and action came together. Our opening event, Welcome to the Forest, was no exception. Here are the local artists, musicians and creators who were involved...
Lloyd Park
Nest is an immersive sound and light sculpture by artists Marshmallow Laser Feast and composer Erland Cooper.
The installation consists of simple beams of light in a ring that creates ever-evolving natural forms in the night sky. The lights are driven by three-dimensional sonic murmurations, which Cooper has composed in collaboration with Waltham Forest’s choirs, local schools, community groups and musicians to bring together the local community, Lloyd Park and its wildlife.
With thanks to local choirs and schools including: Hillyfield Primary Academy (Lloyd Park and Higham Hill), Natural Voices Choir, Chingford Ladies Inspirational Choir, RAW Academy, London Forest Choir, Jenny La Touche’s Gospel Choir and Whitefield Academy Trust.
