March to October 2021
Borough wide
Rendezvous Projects present, Sweet Harmony, a new series of digital and on street artworks and events to celebrate the heritage of pirate radio and rave in Waltham Forest.
1989 – 1994 was a distinct period in music history; at the end of the acid house scene; garage, hardcore, jungle and drum and bass all emerged in quick succession. Waltham Forest played an important role in the development and dissemination of these musical genres, influencing a generation of musicians and young people which few people are aware of, and being pre digital, has not been well documented or collected.
Waltham Forest’s role in this scene happened because of the cultural mix of the borough, its location and architecture. Find out how influential the borough residents have been, and celebrate the creative and entrepreneurial people who contributed to this scene, and the huge creative catalyst it was, inspiring graphic artists, projectionists, photographers, writers and musicians.
Archive material collected during the project will be re-presented though new audio and video work, podcasts, projections, oral histories, and artist led workshops inviting you to explore and discover the new areas of the borough.
This event will take place in locations across Waltham Forest. More details on venues coming soon.
