Could you be a Legend of the Forest? Waltham Forest London Borough of Culture needs our residents to get involved and help make 2019 an unforgettable year.
Our army of volunteers will be named Legends of the Forest and will be central to ensuring the success of Waltham Forest’s London Borough of Culture year in 2019.
More than 600 people have already registered their interest to volunteer in 2019 - some of which took part in the launch event to mark the start of their volunteer journey at Waltham Forest Town Hall today (Wednesday 19 September).
The new Legends of the Forest were able to meet their fellow Legends and were the first to hear more about the exciting plans for the volunteer programme. They also heard updates about the massive opening show for London Borough of Culture led by Talvin Singh in January.
There will be a wide range of opportunities for our Legends of the Forest to get involved with, from community gardening, greeting visitors , ushering and wayfinding, assisting backstage to perhaps playing the role of an extra. We can guarantee there will be lots to see and things to do working alongside artist, organisers and residents.
Cllr Clare Coghill, Leader of Waltham Forest Council, said: “Volunteering is such a rewarding and amazing experience. This is a genuine opportunity to help out and take part in our year of culture.
“Our Legends of the Forest will make a real difference to our year of culture. We want our residents to form bonds, work together, enjoy new experiences and together help show how amazing Waltham Forest is.
“We want as many people to get involved and apply to be part of this incredible experience.“

Groundwork London will be on board to help deliver this programme, ensuring our Legends are ready for 2019 and beyond that, continuing a legacy of volunteering across the borough.
Lindy Kelly, Executive Director of Groundwork London, said: “Every day at Groundwork London, we see the extraordinary benefits volunteering bring to individuals and communities. This is why we’re so thrilled to be supporting and inspiring volunteering, throughout the first ever London Borough of Culture programme in Waltham Forest.
“The London Borough of Culture events and activities will offer hundreds of exciting and unique opportunities for local people to volunteer. Whether you want to simply join in the fun, or gain specific skills and experience in a particular role, our team will be on hand to help you get the most out of your experience.”
The London Borough of Culture 2019 team are calling on local people to register to become Legends of the Forest.
Legends of the Forest will receive a skills certificate, a rewards programme and personal references to those taking part.
