Do Not Worry

One of the final events in the London Borough of Culture 2019, Do Not Worry was a unique theatre performance combined with original film screenings created over the course of the year by international artists Janek Turkowski and Iwona Nowacka.

Performed and screened in the surroundings of Delight Wedlinka Polish supermarket and deli on Hoe Street.

Turkowski & Nowacka are theatre and film makers who use the medium of live performance, home movies and participatory film-making to tell stories about the places they visit and the people they meet.

We invited them to be Waltham Forest Tours’ ‘tourists-in-residence', and they have made a few trips to the borough over the course of the year.

When they first travelled to Walthamstow, all they knew about E17 was that it was the title of the debut album of Iwona’s favourite English boy band… But they soon discovered Walthamstow’s little known history as the kingdom of the cinematic art of the silent movie, with studios in the borough even before Hollywood. So, they decided to continue this legacy by taking a look at present day Walthamstow through the lens of silent Super8 cine film.
