Walthamstow Wetlands
Each monthly workshop will invite you to connect with the nature inside and outside of your own body, via dance, deep listening, word and ritual.
Like us, the Earth is a feeling body. When we feel our own bodies, we are also feeling and connecting to the larger body that is nature. Moving and reflecting in Walthamstow Wetlands, we will work creatively with our emotions, asking how they can guide us into deeper relationship with ourselves, each other, and the surrounding wild and urban landscapes. In dancing & verbal dialogue with the elements, we will unearth the wisdom, sensation and story of bone, earth, sky, plant, and experience, while asking questions with our moving bodies: how can we support and be supported by our environment through embodied presence? What can we give to and receive from the land via the intuitive play of movement and language? We will allow our bodies to voice any answers that surface, with and without word. Sharing with each other will be a key element of these journeys, as we work together to reveal the collective body knowing that connects us all.
Earth Body is a pathway into embodied, experiential learning. Please come with a willingness to move and feel. You will need to wear comfortable/weatherproof clothing, and to bring a journal, pen, and water.
About the facilitator, Sophie Marsh:
I birthed Body Poetry as a response to my own disconnection from my physical and emotional body. I have spent the past two years studying for an MA in Creative Writing and Education at Goldsmiths University, where I began researching embodied approaches to writing, learning and healing. During a year-long research project, through my own intuitive exploration and public research workshops, Body Poetry was formed. The practice draws a lot of inspiration from the moving natural world, and is also informed by other dance practices, teachers, and communities, such as Gabrielle Roth & the 5 Rhythms, Daria & Anna Halprin and their Tamalpa work, Authentic Movement, Open Floor, and Dancing Tao. Over the past year, I have facilitated over 40 workshops and courses in different public and community group settings, in collaboration with spaces such as Alexandra Palace, Goldsmiths University and The Psychedelic Society.
