From the blurred identities and frolics of Midsummer Night’s Dream to the cruising grounds of Derek Jarman’s Modern Nature, the woods have always been places where identities are concealed and sexuality explored under the cover of the leaves.
This will be celebrated under the August stars by Out in the Forest, a late night party curated by The Staying Out Crew that brings the woodland to a Walthamstow industrial estate. In this queering of the landscape, set designers, performers, DJs and artists will bring a magical fairytale that’s both dark and light to this temporary forest amidst the city.
Out in the Forest is part of The People's Forest season - a series of events exploring our relationship with Epping Forest, interrogating the deep bond we have with forests and woodland, and how this relationship is culturally determined.
