Sunday 24 November
Walthamstow School for Girls
From the ballroom to the BRIT Awards, Arlene Phillips has been a trailblazer in choreographing for popular dance genres for over 40 years. Candoco Dance Company, the company of disabled and non-disabled dancers, is delighted to have commissioned Phillips to collaborate with Candoco dancers, Joel Brown and Laura Patay, on this romantic duet told through a series of vignettes set across time.
Danced with passion and sensitivity to a collection of pop songs, Joel and Laura offer audiences a potent and emotive exploration of how we fall in and out of love over and over again, often with the same person.
You and I Know throws out the rule book and inspire audiences around who can dance and what dance can be.
Candoco Dance Company created a sensation last year when it became the first contemporary dance company to perform on Strictly Come Dancing. Candoco collaborates with the most exciting choreographers and artists of our time to present distinctive performances and meaningful learning experiences that expand perceptions of what dance can be.
This piece is co-commissioned by Without Walls, Greenwich+Docklands International Festival, Stockton International Riverside Festival and Ageas Salisbury International Arts Festival.
Part of Liberty – The Mayor of London’s free festival celebrating the work of Deaf and disabled artists, presented in partnership with Waltham Forest London Borough of Culture 2019.
